The OP impulsively made nonrefundable reservations requiring vacation time off from a job he hasn't started and approval from a manager he apparently hasn't met. As a manager I'd either perceive this as thoughtlessly naive or thoughtfully disrespectful. I don't see any middle ground.
I have had to request time off immediately after starting a job (the request being made prior to starting the job), because it was my annual court-ordered child visitation period. The fact that I then had two fixed weeks of court-ordered visitation was none of the employer's business. And yes, the manager involved probably found my actions "thoughtless" and/or "disrespectful."
