India is just as nosy as anyone...and more so than a lot of other governments. A few years ago, India's government threatened to ban Blackberry if RIM didn't allow them to tap all Blackberry conversations (BBM/BIS) in the country. RIM caved.
India's government recently unveiled a new electronic snooping capability that is far more intrusive than what the NSA has been up to.
The Indian government is not your friend when it comes to privacy.
