I spend 99% of my time on the US board so I am not familiar with the LH way of doing things, so I am hoping someone can tell me if this is real.

We recently returned from a cruise, flying ATH-PHL. I paid $1500pp RT for coach and used credits to upgrade to business class on US. We met two ladies who flew LH on a connecting route ... something like ATH-FRA-IAD. They claimed they paid $700pp for coach and upgraded the TATL portion for $89. Is that even possible? I don't think it was a lie, but perhaps a misstatement. Any insight on what they may have meant?
