If you are diligent and ask for a property layout map every time you check in at each property, HHonors or not, scan in the map, you can generate a collection something that looks like this:
These are for properties that I collected maps from for that go back a few years (pre-FT).

If you really want to know what configuration a hotel's property is really like, you may end up needing to go to something like Google Maps for an overhead or projection view simply because the property may have multiple buildings with different configurations. Here's a link to my review of the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay that includes both screen captures from Google Maps as well as the property's own map:
