Jasper, would you please expound on your experience with this, i.e. via a Fairmont promo or Amex FHR? Would Premier 3rd night free certificates be treated differently?

I'm looking at an upcoming stay at the Fairmont Whistler. Amex FHR has 3rd night free but costs a fair bit more than booking the non-refundable rate through Expedia. I don't mind paying the higher price because of the FHR benefits but I need the third night to count towards my plat5 qualification.
