More critical systems are thoroughly tested and designed according to safety engineering principals. Of course, doing this has a huge impact on costs. If I was a major shareholder on BA, I'd be very concerned if they applied the same level of reliability and testing to every single IT system regardless of purpose.
Indeed, it is what is commonly referred to as prioritization or as a risk based approach. Glad to see
