Not just HP. I've had this happen at a HR (Boston Lafayette) on a 3-room stay (ouch!). It never really got straightened out.
At least at full-serve you can check-in on-line, and for all I know you can even still do phone check-in (haven't tried it in a few years, but it worked at one time).
To the best of my knowledge HP does neither.
