I am not sure why I find this so interesting, but Alaska/Horizon Air has announced twice-daily non-stop service between Seattle and Kamloops to begin this December. The city of Kamloops and Sun Peaks resort created a 'ticket trust' to show the revenue potential and convince Alaska to service the route. Read about it in the Alaska forum at:

I thought it was impressive to see a community actively working out a plan for airline service and mutual benefit. All too often, it seems we see smaller Canadian communities simply demanding a certain level of airline service, no matter the loss to the airline. I'm wondering how Air Canada deals with this...
It also seems that Alaska is particularly well-positioned to compete with Air Canada in western Canada.
