Palmerston North (PMR) to Nelson (NSN), Air New Zealand Link Beechcraft 1900D
The Koru Lounge failed to reveal anything that i fancied, so i decided if the rain died down, i would take a walk into town to help fill in my 4hour transit. It wasn't long before it stopped raining, so off i went. I followed the main road into town, passing rows of old damp houses and crossing the railway lines. Past the hospital, i made good time and soon i was sitting in a cafe near the Square, a rectangular piece of park in the center of the city. Coffee and Muffin finished, i started my walk back to the airport. Unfortunately my curiosity got the better of me and i took what i thought was a short walk to see a house i lived in around 20years ago. It then started to rain, so due to the conditions, and that time was ticking away, i relented and called a taxi. $27 later i was at the airport. I had a bite to eat in the lounge and read a magazine. I took a quick trip down to the SCI machines to see if there were any better seats to be had, but there wasn't.
It was dark by the time Boarding was called. We made our way out to the parked Beechcraft 1900D aircraft. I had seat 4A. The Captain told us the weather conditions on route and in Nelson. It appeared it was a fairly lovely evening in the city. This Palmerston North to Nelson route has recently been revisited after a long time. The new schedule has two flights in each direction every weekday using Beechcraft 1900D aircraft. There is no flights on Saturday and one flight on Sunday using a Bombardier Q300. We taxied out and took off to the east. We turned and headed for the coast. There was a full moon, which meant i could see things out the window. Our cruising altitude of 16.000ft lay above the cloud layer, which became more patchy the closer we got to the Nelson. Finally there was no cloud and the moon light lit up the sea. We descended and i could see the lights of Nelson. We banked and made in for the runway. We landed and taxied to the terminal. Deplaning was fast as usual in the 1900D, and soon i was waiting for my bags, which wasn't long in coming.
