Yes the Business fares usually hold. You might try a local TA in the US though as recently there have been some EI GDS business class fares that were actually cheaper than EI.COM
AFAIK you can only get UA miles on the UA codeshare so you must be booked on the UA flight number and not the EI one. You may have to choose between getting miles or a cheap Business fare.
thanks for your reply. i would love for some more confirmation that EI fares dont earn on UA unless booked as a codeshare. i already learned they dont earn PQM so it seems as though at least for my work related travel, GPUs and UA P fares on the cheap will have to suffice, but for personal travel the EI fares are very attractive.
