It is impossible to overstate how much of an upgrade the D gates are -- this was a grand slam home run move. Precheck, nicer facilities everywhere, much better food options (and open later for redeyes -- but still not late enough IMO). I usually hate trams but the LAS trams are well run and efficient and totally worth it to get to D gates. They also keep precheck open late which is huge (because they even close down first class line around 9 or 10 PM usually).
I agree, though when I lived in Las Vegas I hated the trams when I arrived. All I wanted to do was walk off the plane and get to my car quickly, A&B had that option, at D I had to go down the world's longest escalator, pack myself into a tram with 400 other people, wade through them once I got off and get to the parking garage.
Now that I'll be arriving as a tourist, however I don't care.
