I spoke with the call center today. They assign XL and asked for CC at which point I told them I change my mind.
Somewhat tangental, but based on my understanding, once your reservation is in XL mode you should be able to go on RJ/Qantas MMB and select from any available XL seat (all others will be greyed, at least in my experience). Could be a way to check and see if they properly ran the command.
