The problem with doing away with the monarchy is what do you replace it with? Anyone who wants to run for the job of Head of State, you probably don't want to them to get it....

So keeping it in one family and telling them its their duty to serve us seems a better way of getting someone who is not doing it because they want to. I doubt the establishment would let us do it by random ballot which seems the only other way to keep politicians out of it!
