It's been a couple years since I stayed this hotel, but I thought it was reasonably priced and treated elites well. As to the safety of the surrounding area, I guess it depends on your reference point. There are many US cities that I would not recommend venturing out after dark. I would say London as a whole is much safer than the majority of US cities and this part of London didn't appear any less safe.
