I wonder why you Brits don't approach the Courts? Or Small causes court where you can argue the matter yourself without a lawyer. Yes, the difference of GBP 25 is no big deal, but it's the principle.
US BRITS as you refer to us have not yet reached the American stage of suing the pants of someone for every little thing [ though it seems to be going that way ]

we prefer a more mature approach of talking to people and trying reason first
