One particular BA flight from NCL that I've been using recently seems to attract a decent number of commuting crew, not just BA but for VS as well.

As much as I like flying I can't imagine commuting by air even if not working a 5 day week. Flying out Monday morning, staying in a hotel and back on Friday afternoon was fine for me!

What are the crew travel arrangements for commuting? Are you guaranteed a seat on an aircraft if you need to get to LHR to start your shift or is all crew travel standby and so you need to get to the airport a few flights early so you have a chance of getting on one.

What about those working for VS? Do they have the same staff travel arrangements as BA staff when flying on BA or do these crew have to pay full fare for their tickets?

I've seen BA crew on bmi before (before the takeover) so presumably the crew had agreements for staff travel on each others airline. Can BA staff living in MAN, EDI or ABZ travel on VS if the timings are better for them (or they just fancied a change)?
