I recently did the LUX - HNL tier point run. BA cancelled the LHR - IAD flight the night before departure so AA re-routed me via JFK. This meant I had to make a new hotel booking at JFK and lost the money on the one I originally booked in IAD. The JFK rate was higher too.
Do I submit a claim to AA, BA or would this normally be handled by travel insurance?
The care for delays for the OP (and £75 is reasonable for docklands I find) and the changes to your journey should both give rise to EU passenger rights claims. If BA's cancellation and subsequent rerouting caused you to incur costs then reasonable out of pocket costs should b reimbursed by BA. You should have a claim for your JFK hotel, you were always expecting to pay for your IAD hotel so you have no claim for that.
If you have very good insurance it may be easier claiming on this.
