Au contraire. BAEC will charge you a lot more than just "taxes" on a TATL Avios redemption.
If the OP's trip is scheduled for later than October 14, and the OP can find Economy Class "SAAver" seats on AA metal, it might make sense to just buy some AA miles, and redeem them for one-way awards on AA. When AA holds a sale, you can buy AA miles for less than 2.5 US cents per mile. And, unlike BA, AA does not assess any surcharges when you redeem for TATL travel on AA metal.
