Personal opinion is keep the Golds ahead of the credit card purchasers. Other than that, I'm fine. If someone wants to buy Group 1 boarding ala carte, more power to them, still going to be plenty of overhead space at that point.
At the end of the day, the airlines need X revenue to stay in business, so the more they can wring out of fees that elites otherwise get for free, the less they can charge in airfares, and the better it is for me, as I just want to get the most I can for the least amount of dollars.
And on that metric, UA is kicking Delta's ..., and works better for me than AA, although I can see how AA might work better for others. Main value for me is the wide availability of award travel and the flexibility of award travel and an excellent SDC policy.
Oh, believe me, they know EXACTLY where the priority boarding lanes are. Some of them jump into group 1 claiming they paid for priority boarding so they could be first on board or got the credit card so they could be first on board. Even though that is not what either of those promises. But they believe it does.
