Earliest Flight Award Booking Trick (two one-ways)?
I've been keeping a close eye on flight availability for 4 award tickets I want to book on AS using Avios (SEA to OGG) for July 2014. Problem is, the super saver direct flights (single segment) seem to go as quickly as they are released. If we go to OGG for a week, and I wait to book round trip tickets, I have to wait until the OGG to SEA seats are released for my return trip...a week after the SEA to OGG seats are released. By then, super saver direct flight seats are all gone.
Then I have a brain wave: what if I book all 4 outgoing tickets the day they are released, and then wait a week and book returning tickets the day those seats are released? First of all, can I do this? I've never booked one way awards before, and not sure if BA allows this. Secondly, there is inherent risk in this: not being able to get return award tickets from the same airport. I'd say this is low risk based on the data I've seen so far, but still...
Can anyone comment on this if it's doable? It may seem silly to book so far in advance, but I don't think many of these seats are released and they are very popular awards, so I need every advantage I can get to get in there as soon as the seats are released to get 4 of them!
