+1 At least selling this is better than giving out status for free (like those from Marriott).
My problems with UA have not been from "free" elites like may appear from Marriott, but from lumping credit card holders and $9 purchasers in with elites (clogging the checkin lines and boarding process), sending the message that paying an annual card fee is worth more as much as flying 50k+ miles a year. AA does a better job balancing, IMO.
