We know there is a fare difference. But the people who don't care about the money and absolutely, positively want to be on the flight they want, will always pay that £3600. Others, like me, will always wait the 90 minutes. So you really have a tale of two cities.
I guess there's a theoretical corporate do gooder who's authorized to fly in paid full fare F and decides to do right thing for his/her company and book the later/cheaper flight and play the odds that the earlier flight is available. Those don't tend to be the people who fly full fare F. Offset by that is the cost of re-routing someone in full F on another carrier because something happened with equipment, or crew, etc. and multiple PAX had to be re-routed.
Oh, and then there's that thing about customer goodwill/satisfaction.
