Tokyo hotels implement stealth rate hike, apparently in unison
Over in the Hyatt forum, it's reported that the Park Hyatt has quietly raised their service charge from 10% to 13%. Someone there commented that the Conrad and Grand Hyatt had done the same.
I tried a test booking at the Pen and it seems they are up to 15%!
Haven't checked other Tokyo luxury hotels yet. Anyone have any experience with them? Bear in mind when checking that there is a consumption tax in Japan, currently set at 5% of the room+service charge.
I know it seems small but in a country coming off from 20+ years of deflation, it really is significant.
