Remember that if you book the flight either as part of a cruise booking (Cunard have access to cheap o/w flights) or as a one-way Avios redemption, the surprise may be spoilt at immigration or Heathrow when details of your exit out of the US are looked at.
That could be avoided by talking with the immigration agent before and showing them proof.
I thought it would be recorded anyway since their passport numbers will be with the cruise operator.
