I arrived in JFK [T8=AA] on a flt. from ZRH, as pax exited the plane's ramp (which leads to the long corridor, which terminates at CBP area), there were two CBP agents, checking passports [a quick look at the "main" page] of each exiting pax.
Happens occasionally, but rarely. Usually, they're looking for a specific person from that flight.
