Expanding the topic a bit I guess.
SEA is my home airport and I travel many times a year to PVG or TPE. I'd prefer to go SEA-NRT-PVG e.g. Rather than through SFO. (Means better departure/return times, more interesting club in NRT, etc). But if I try to book such a flight on United.com, there are no United metal planes going NRT-PVG. And the only flight I can get NRT-PVG is on ANA. That'd be fine except the fare goes from @ $1400 to @ $6000. And of course you have possible difference in miles earned and lifetime miles.

So for me the service and choices have declined dramatically.
