I think three is pretty unrealistic actually - unless you are doing a night or late evening run, it's very rare to be able to maintain an average speed close to the speed limit - the road is just too busy with things going 45-50
153 miles, according to Google maps, and 2 hrs 47 min. Everything would need to go right to make that time though.

I have done this trip in much closer to 2 hrs (north to south). Not particularly proud of it, but - flash floods in Inverness meaning no-one could head south. We were driving to catch a flight in EDI. Just when we were about to give up, they opened the road. We knew the road south would be empty and there would be no speed traps. Of course, when we arrived at EDI in record time, the flight was delayed, and we missed our connection later on ...
