I'm currently travelling through southeast asia (see my trip report here), and I've found that some strangers, after I ask to take their photo, will give me a broad smile, while others just stare straight into my soul (I love those the most, to be honest).

Does anyone have any theories, any personal experiences that would suggest a pattern along cultural, ethnic or national lines?

Just curious.
