This isn't your house we're talking about. There's no such thing as "just pop [whatever] in. First you need a mechanic. Then you need the replacement in place - that's only at 6-10 airports that US serves. Of course, first a crew member needs to know a replacement is needed before anything else happens - had anyone mentioned it to one prior to the OP boarding?

You are making my point for me. Which, I apologize, I apparently did not make clearly. The fact that it is such a complex, time-consuming task to change a bulb is the problem! I was wrong to say US, but Boeing should be able to engineer a reading lamp that has easily replaceable bulbs. Do you disagree? Is it reasonable that a mechanic has to come on board to change a lightbulb in the cabin? I don't think it is. Or how about getting those new bulbs that last 50 yrs? Problem solved!
