Thumbs up Finally received my 10x Avios

Just posting to share my delight at finally receiving 60k Avios from the Lloyds 10x offer.

I applied for the Premier Duo card with 10x bonus Avios for 3 months back in Feb 2012, while also holding a Lloyds Avios Duo card (upgraded by them from Airmiles). When doing so I noticed some ambiguous Ts&Cs when applying. These read: "Customers will only be eligible for one joining bonus from Avios. In the event that a customer re-applies for the Lloyds TSB Premier Duo Avios Credit Card Account or upgrades from a Lloyds TSB Duo Avios Credit card Account, Lloyds TSB may process an application and issue the Lloyds TSB Premier Duo cards but Avios will not award further bonus offers."

As I had never been awarded any bonus Avios offers before I figured this would not therefore be a 'further' bonus offer and I was ok. (There was some discussion on this ambiguity at the time in this post).

But to be sure I decided to confirm with Lloyds card services on the phone before spending £k's. They didn't know and referred me to my local branch. So I popped into the branch and after 45 minutes of watching the poor customer services person on the phone to various Lloyds departments I walked out with a signed paying in slip saying I was indeed eligible.

Needless to say the points never arrived. On contacting Avios and Lloyds on the phone they quoted the original Ts&Cs, said it was unfortunate, apologised for the misinformation and ambiguity and gave me 1000 Avios as compensation. I appealed and they sent me a letter saying tough.

So off I trundled to the Financial Ombudsman Service, where after a year they finally managed to get Lloyds to offer a settlement for the full bonus Avios and £50 in compensation, which have just hit my account.

Interestingly the Ombudsman's reason for siding with me was that the Ts&Cs were indeed ambiguous, rather than any signed confirmation in the branch. Therefore if anyone else was denied for this reason it might be worth revisiting...

Not the best way to treat customers with 30+ year current accounts. It's now time to find another bank...
