Agree. If anything, sounds like M&M have overreacted by cancelling. One slight issue might be if you are asked to prove your loss, because presumably they could just say, okay, we'll cancel your ticket as well and refund it in full (as an award ticket or whatever). Which would be pretty poor, but possible.
