Hi Gurus,

I am about to book an economy SFO-HKG round-trip with the return flight in December. I have an option to book an M fare for a little more and I am considering doing it just so that I have an option to upgrade to PEY. Not a frequent flyer here, but can transfer miles from starwood if needed. The FAQs say that fare class does not matter for upgrades - does that mean just op-ups? Clearly, if I want to use miles to upgrade, I have to be in a non-discounted economy class right?

If I do book an M fare, how likely am I to get a) the upgrade done through miles after transferring from starwood or b) op-up considering it's going to be december (not around christmas though - Friday the 13th Dec).

I realize I have to decide if the PEY upgrade is that much better than Y, but any opinions welcome!
