Thank you everybody. The spelling error is small but surely I do not want to run even the smallest risk of being denied boarding. I pointed out the error 30 minutes after I received the booking confirmation by email. The route in question is from Lisbon to Fortaleza which Lufthansa Group doesn't serve.
I have flown twice with a wrongly spelt first or last name, even to the US. Apparently there is an IATA rule that allows up to 2 incorrect letters in the name - that's what I was told by a SWISS M&M call center agent. They said not to worry, everything would be fine - and it was.
So I think there really was no need to cancel the ticket in the first place, and M&M should have pointed that out to you.
