M&M refuse to own up to their own blunder

M&M have made an error and expect me to pay for it. M&M have misspelt my travel buddy's last name on an award ticket. To put the name right they cancelled his ticket but when they tried to reissue availability in Business had vanished. They're now saying that all they can offer me is a ticket in Economy. My position is: as the ticket was issued M&M entered in to a binding contract. Since M&M was at fault (I spelt the name correctly on the phone and as calls are recorded proof should be no problem) I expect them to correct their error without any disadvantage to me. I think I can rightfully insist that M&M provide me with a business class ticket as per the original booking. Where they get it from is not my concern, right? Even if this means they have to buy a revenue ticket from the airline in question (in this case, TAP). What do you think? How would you go about enforcing your right? All of the five agents I called said they couldn't do anything and a written complaint remains unanswered with only two weeks to go before I am supposed to travel.
