I've only been able to use one out of 6 international legs this year.

I am now burning the other 5 on flights like ATL-HOU, ATL-DAY, etc. just to use them. I would probably get the upgrade on those anyway.

So only 1 of 6 was really useful.

Oh, and since the upgrade was not available both directions, I had to buy B because M was not combinable with discounted J. But it still saved me $800. That alone is worth more than $200 voucher or 25K miles.

Basically I redeem the SWU benefit only if I have an international trip with the SWU available, and then try to use the rest somehow before they expire. Same thing last year although I think I was able to use 2.

Nice little game, would'nt you say?

BTW, never had an OP UP because I've never had a Y ticket on international. However, I may have to do a mileage run in mid-Dec to stay DM, and will be buying the cheapest coach ticket. The SWU's expire Dec 5 so I won't be able to use them nor would I buy M out of my own pocket anyway. Wonder which route gives me the best fare and best chance of OP UP? Right now looks like I'll need about 8K MQM. DXB and JNB are the best values for MQM but no way I will get Op Up. I've heard some of the Asian routes are a good chance.....don't want to buck up for a Visa either. Ideas?
