Sometimes you do need a rental car. Just because there is good inner city service and transportation between cities doesn't mean the train or bus are the best option. I'd have missed some of my best adventures if I hadn't rented a car. Not all people are looking for the genetic tourist traps and experiences.
Agreed. We just did 15 days in England, Scotland and Ireland and used 2 flights, the Tube, city busses, a cab, a long distance bus, a train and three rental cars to get around. We just picked the best method that fit our needs at the time and often (but not always) that was a rental car
