The flight from LGA lands in MSP, and I get to the gate for the connecting flight to SEA before boarding has begun; plenty of time to spare. I decide to check in with the gate agent just to make sure everything's ok. I'm told that due to the weather delay on the first leg, I've been "automatically rebooked by the computer" onto a different flight to SEA leaving 11 hours later.
So there I am, with my confirmed boarding pass, at the gate before boarding has even begun, and I'm denied my seat.
Is this common? Is it even allowed? The gate agent said there were no empty seats on the flight, and that there was nothing he could do.
[In fact, the flight was overbooked, and they had 3 volunteers who had been bumped from the flight and were receiving travel vouchers as compensation. I asked the gate agent if I would be compensated, and he said "No, the computer won't allow it." If you ask me, this smells really fishy... Did Delta bump me off the flight involuntarily to avoid having to pay for another volunteer??]
Do I have any recourse here? What would you do?
As Delta requires you to be present at the gate 15 min prior to scheduled departure. The late flight does not necessarily change this, but if you were there I would contact delta customer service and ask why I wasn't offered IDB compensation.
