Me too.
I think the idea of check in the previous day is a good one if you are taking a car to the North Terminal checking in and staying by the South Terminal (The Hilton is generally my hotel of choice).
The benefit of avoiding schlepping luggage between terminals is minor though in contrast to the potential inconvenience if things go wrong.
