This was the first time in over 3 years I needed to be in a city that DL does not service, and I am in 2 cities a week.
This is a great idea. Call the diamond line and see if they can book you DL NYC-DEN then connecting on UA to SAF. You could also fly DL all the way to ABQ on the outbound then book the return SAF-UA-DEN-DL-NYC.

It might be worth calling UA as well to see if they price the same itin out any cheaper.
