But if my math is right, it should be 30,000 miles each (60k for you and your spouse) for a roundtrip upgrade SFO-HKG-SFO.

I wouldn't personally bother upgrading the Phuket segment because it's a fairly short flight. For the long haul, I think the upgrade is worth it if you have miles to spare.
