You were a hotel guest wishing to have dinner in a hotel restaurant and they refused to give you a table because you would be dining alone? This would cause me to call for a manager and escalate the situation to Starwood. It's offensive because often one picks a hotel partly based on what restaurants are available in house. I've sometimes picked a hotel where I would not stay otherwise because of the restaurant. Also, especially when alone, often one doesn't want to leave the hotel due to concerns about one's personal security: walking back to the hotel alone after dinner might not be wise and there are parts of the world where taking a taxi alone isn't considered to be safe either.
