I had a great weekend stay at the Sheraton Guangzhou Huadu Resort at the end of June. I was invited to the resort by the it's GM while having lunch at the Four Points during my SPG Moment. The Sheraton Resort and Four Points hotel in Guangzhou are owned and managed by the same company. I believe that the resort is less than a year old. I was picked up in the hotel car at the Four Points and was brought to the resort at night. The drive was around 40 minutes. It seems to be in a secluded area north of the city. Definitely a great retreat from the city being on the lake.
Coming into the resort my initial impression is how polished everything was. The resort is very beautiful and luxurious for an affordable price. The transportation around the resort is by golf cart. The villas are very secluded. While the resort is very young it looks like they spent a great deal of money on trees to give each lakeside villa privacy. They offered many complimentary activities, including some water activities on the lake. There seemed to be a lot of things for children to do as well. The gym was a bit nicer than the Sheraton standard. The breakfast buffet was fairly large, though a bit pricey. The prices are high for that part of China but are at the standard level you'd expect at a Starwood resort. There is nothing around the resort, so it is your only option. I ordered off the menu for the rest of my meals. The staff in the restaurants and front desk were very friendly with a few smiles. I accidentally locked myself out of my room and one of the waiters walking to the restaurant was able to call the front desk for a new key. He felt bad that I had to wait outside and actually serenaded me with a song! I was very impressed with the level of service at the resort.
The spa for some reason was priced much lower than any other Starwood hotel or resort I had been to. I was slightly puzzled because of the price of breakfast was almost half of a massage. The spa was very nice and quiet. They provide tea service in their lobby and then once again once you head into the room for the massage. The room was very nice and had a patio.
I believe there are two pools at the resort (heated and non-heated). I never used them as the villa had its own pool. The temperature outside was hot and steamy (my camera fogged up when taking photos outside), so it was great having a private pool. The room had a french press for coffee and also a pod based Illy coffee machine for espresso which actually worked really great. I'm trying to recall the amount of time it took to get to the airport. I believe it is a 20-30 minute drive.
I would definitely recommend this hotel if you want to get away from the city and relax. I was very impressed with the quality of service. I had an amazing weekend at the resort!
