Wherever you read that was lying. The best time is about three days out, but
outside of that, there's little rhyme or reason to when space opens up. Often see it at 10 months or even closer in for the initial offering of low space.

Booking cruise trip in June/ July of 2014 out of CPH for couple weeks. Flight over schedule will be available end of this month but flight back schedule will not be available until August. I understand searching for one way segments looking for low award levels, but any way I could go ahead and book the seats on the front end and then when I search for the return flight at a low award level link that result with the booked flight over. I am platinum so can redeposit but wondering if can have DL take those seats and link to return flight search results. I realize wishful thinking but hate to wait the three additional weeks before starting my search.
To avoid issues, book a dummy return when you book the outbound and then just make your free change whenever you see what you want for the return. They cannot merge them if you book them separately, and DL's systems are notorious for failing to recognize a change from a one-way at 100K to a r/t at 100K and you might get a random amount. If you're replacing the return, it should be straightforward.
