Some good comments upthread about where to sit. Departures on 28 give great views, and approaches from the north down to SFO are also great.
However, I think SFO, while fairly predictable for landings, is less predictable than LAX. I almost always land to the west at LAX. In rain or southerly wind conditions, you'll probably land on a 19 runway.
Finally, the 1 vs. 28 runway situation has nothing to do with domestic vs. international and everything to do with the take-off weight (which affects runway length required for the plane) and wind conditions. Since the bigger, heavier planes need more runway and the 28 pair are longer, that is why the "international" aircraft typically use them even when single aisle planes are using the 1 runways. But in certain fuel situations and/or wind conditions, any and all aircraft might use the 28 runways to takeoff.
