The above quote confirms why I've avoided Sofia; it sounds as dire as Bucharest. Bucharest was simply awful, in addition to the accurate discription above there were stray dogs wondering the streets. Towns in Transylvania were marginally better than Bucharest but not enjoyable to visit. Lucky for me I could change my ticket and fly out early, and that is exactly what I did I was so relieved to board BA for LHR.
Op, there are so many flight options from LON for a weekend city break. If you're interested in a nice Eastern European city to visit, Krakow would be my top pick.
