Are long-haul flights able to use SFO's 2 shorter runways?
Mods: As I'm still kind of new here not sure if this is the right place to post this query. Feel free to move it to the correct place, if there is one.
After the tragic event today at SFO I'm curious about something. CNN just showed a Singapore Airlines flight landing at SFO (presumably flight 2 from Hong Kong) on one of the shorter runways. My question is, with SFO's 2 longer runways out of commission for a while, are long-haul flights able to take off from and reach their destinations from the 2 shorter runways? Or do they have to stop at a secondary airport on their way to refuel. I notice that BA 286 to London took off more or less as scheduled tonight and seems to be travelling non-stop (according to Flightaware).
Just curious, thanks for any insight.
Cheers,
Tim
