BTW (a bit late now he's checked in, but may be useful in the future) your BF should have free seat selection on the Business UK sectors as free seat selection is a benefit for J class fares (I found this out back when I was blue, my CW flight had to pay for seat selection, but the domestic addon allowed free changes).
