I've not been, but I think that Sanya is one of the most expensive places in China! Hotels in BJ and SH can also be pricey, but food is also expensive in Sanya I've been led to believe.
If you can go anywhere in China, just for a few days, BJ is the most obvious choice for culture, or some beautiful nature...
