While AA does not charge you YQ, the KUL-SIN is 10K AA miles versus 4500 Avios. You also have to call AA to book, and incur $25 telephone booking fee per ticket.
It is a no win situation for shorthaul MH flights. Better to just buy cash tickets.
In fact train travel between SIN and KUL isn't bad. KUL airport is very far away from town also.
