Status is based on whichever is HIGHER, not lower, if earned normally (e.g. not on a Challenge): required segments, EQ miles or EQ points.

E.g. one can earn Gold with 25,000 points even if they only have flown 16,667 miles because they were flying on high-EQP generating fares. Or with 25,000 base ("butt in seat") miles but have earned 12,500 points because they were flying in the most discounted fare buckets.

IN addition the the method brp and Djokison mentioned, I usually see the fare class when I look at the Detailed Fare Rules - I get something at the top like

"SMF to SXM BNE0C1V5 (Displayed Below) JFK to SXM" folowed by the massive detailed fare rules.

If it's not the fare I want, I can put it on hold and call Web Services, requesting a bump to a fare class that will offer more points (but not a huge bump in prices).

But then again you may not even need to do that - as it is the higher of points, miles or segments that will determine your status earned this calendar year.

For example, if I get 45000 points and 55000 miles, then my status would be based on those 45000 points (and I would be GOLD). If it's based on the higher of the two, then I should be okay, right?

Which is it?
